Drought In Afghanistan: Millions Face Serious Food Shortages

What happened?

More than 22.8 million people (about the population of New York) are going to be facing food shortages in Afghanistan this winter due to the price of food and groceries drastically rising. That is more than half of the population!

How did this happen?

Due to economic challenges, major droughts and floods in recent years hunger has increased significantly. With the recent takeover of the Taliban the situation is a lot more extreme and challenging. How have the public reacted? Dave Beasley, the executive director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) said this: "Afghanistan is now among the world's worst humanitarian crises, if not the worst".

What is the world doing about it?

The WPF are trying to encourage people to donate to Afghan families who are on the brink of starvation. Every 1$ donated, 64 cent will go directly to programmes supporting hungry people. The link to their website is:
