Ski trip 2023

It was an exciting time for the students of year 11. As part of our sports lessons we were given the opportunity to go on a skiing trip. So, on 27th January, we set off early for the Kitzsteinhorn near Salzburg, Austria, accompanied by Frau Birnbaum and Frau Weber. At our destination our teachers were supported by Daniel and Rutger, two ski instructors from the area.

Upon arrival we discovered our cosy accommodation with various amenities and picked up our equipment. During the eventful week that followed, everyone from beginners to advanced skiers learnt a multitude of new skills and had hours of fun at an altitude of over 2500m!

The view on the first morning

On the first day we were blessed with clear skies, sunshine, and amazing snow. As the week went on, however, the weather took a turn for the worse. We were met with heavy snowfall and strong winds which proved a challenge to ski in. Despite the undesirable conditions, nothing could dampen our mood. We explored many different slopes which offered a varied experience. In addition, we were rewarded for our hard work by delicious food in our hotel as well as in the alpine centre next door. From the classic Kaiserschmarrn to Apple strudel and Germknödel, we expanded our palates with countless tasty Austrian specialities.

The weather was beautiful on the first few days

Our evenings were spent attending theory lessons, learning about the dangers of the slopes and how we can keep ourselves safe. Not only did we learn a lot, but we also laughed a lot. In our free time we played games in the sports hall, bought souvenirs, amused ourselves with card games or just relaxed in our rooms.

The last day will stand out in all of our memories. The extreme weather meant that most of the pistes were closed so we decided to spend the afternoon sipping hot chocolates in the Skybar, building an igloo, and having a wild snowball fight. The last evening’s “entertainment” consisted of a fire alarm that caused a lot of chaos. All in all, the trip was an exciting, fun and memorable experience that we will be sure to look back on with fondness!
