Scarlett's Red Ribbon (Part 4)

“I was in a difficult position; your father is a violent man. I decided to take the money, but I have regretted it ever since. I would have come earlier but once your Dad found out I was looking for you, he decided to threaten me,” my mother explained.

“How?” I asked. I was astonished to find out my Dad threatened to hurt me and my sister if my Mum kept looking for us.

“I realised you weren’t safe with him, and I had to come to get you once and for all,” she said.

“But Mum, you could have come and told us what was going on. When I found that note with the address, I thought that I was finally going to meet my grandmother, but it turned out she decided to hide me in a basement. I was terrified! Why did grandmother do this?” Scarlett complained to my Mum.

My mother looked her straight in the eye while she said, “I wasn’t sure what you would do once you found out this was all planned. I was scared you wouldn’t hear me out and escape. But all you need to know is that I love you. I’m sorry about the basement.”

“Wait a minute. This doesn’t make any sense. Why did the lady upstairs tell me this house didn’t exist,” I asked my Mum, confused.

“She is your grandmother. She thought my plan to secretly plant this address in my old dressing room with her name on it wasn’t a good idea,” Clara said…

My Mum told us how my grandmother’s fear was that my father would find the address first and suspect something. Apparently, my grandmother was trying to get a taxi a while ago to bring my sister back to our house. That must have been when I talked to her on the street, I thought to myself.

“Ivy, I’m so sorry for not telling you anything. I was in a fight with Dad last evening because he took away my phone. Mum’s right though, he’s dangerous.”
